Cordero Roman - Would You Care If I Was Dying? (Official Lyric Video)
Would You Take Care Of A Dying Ex?
There was a wonderful article on MSNBC today about women who took care of their dying ex-husbands. I was really moved by the compassion of these women, and I had to ask myself: would I do the same?
The answer to that is: "In a heartbeat."
Peter may have wronged me like no one has wronged me before (or since), and it may be twenty years down the road before he needs it, but if he's all alone at the end of his life, I'd do what I could to make him more comfortable. He's still my children's father, and for that gift alone I owe him and always will on some level. Plus, it's simple human decency. Maybe I'd provide hands-on support. Maybe, if I'm remarried or something (I cannot even fathom that right now), my new spouse would prefer that I hire someone to help him with certain things. Regardless, Peter will have my support, so far as I can give it.
I don't have a future with Peter. I don't want to grow old with him anymore. But if he needs me at the time of his life when he's most frail, and it can save undue burden on my children, he can count on me.
I'd like to think he'd do the same for me, but maybe that's a bit unrealistic. I hope not. I think there's still a decent human being in there, if he'd just find him again.
