Travel Essentials for Baby!
My Baby Travel Essentials
The last time Rory and I went to a wedding, we had a great evening. The night, however, was more like a nightmare. My mom came from Rhode Island and watched the baby in the hotel until we were back. He was sleeping when we returned … and then awake for pretty much the rest of the night.
So when it was time for our friend Hollie's wedding this weekend, we were excited, but decidedly nervous. My mom was coming to watch Emmett again, but we swore thatthisnight was going to be different.
My first preventative step: I packed his Deluxe Snuggle Nest by Baby Delight (, ). As I mentioned here, Emmett sleeps like a baby—like a baby who sleeps well!—in his Snuggle Nest.
Maybe it's the little rolls that "snuggle" him, but whatever it is, we've been using it in his bassinet since we got it, and helovesit.
The other trick I had up my sleeve: the SnugGlider by Graco (, [link href="http://www.albeebaby.com/grsnincarses.html" link_updater_label="external" target="_blank"]albeebaby.com
As I mentioned [link href="http://dailywd.womansday.com/blog/2010/08/bringing-up-baby-uh-oh-my-baby-will-only-sleep-in-his-car-seat.html" link_updater_label="external" target="_blank"]here, Emmett is a big fan of passing out in his car seat. My surefire way to calm a scream-fest in minutes is to pop him in his car seat, then swing it, pendulum-style, as fast as I can. I don't know if it's because he likes the dramatic motion, he prefers to sleep sitting, or he's in shock because he's moving so quickly, but something about the swinging car seat always calms him down. The only problem? I have to keep swinging the car seat or the screams start right back up again.
The SnugGlider, though, takes care of the swinging for you. You pop the car seat into the frame, and it swings until your baby's content. (Or for as long as four C batteries can operate a swing.)
Thanks to our travel essentials, Emmett ate at 11:30, slept 'til 4 a.m., ate again, and passed out 'til 7:30.
